              OCTOBER 2005 NEWSLETTER

Fall Festival Time
A big thank you to all of you who stopped by our booth at Richmond's Original Italian Festival October 8-9. Richmonders showed a real appreciation for our offerings; the queue was 20 deep all day long, and we ran out of food at 4:30 on Saturday. The following weekend, we were at the Williamsburg Italian Festival in the pouring rain. Allegria! We'd love to hear about any other local church or school festivals where we might set up a booth. Please click here if you know of one!

Cavanna Family Recipe: Scaloppine Pizzaiola

Saute beef in olive oil in a skillet for 2 minutes.
Flip beef and add some pommarola sauce, to which you have added a few crushed capers and a pinch of oregano.
Cook for another minute or two, and serve.

New Products
This month, we have a wonderful selection if fresh and aged cheeses from the Caseificio dell'Alta Langa, a producer of artisan cheeses from the Piedmont region:

  • Bocconcini: this means "mouthfuls," and it's a delightfully creamy goat cheese with a soft rind. $2.89 /2.5-oz pkg
  • Caprino: a fresh, soft, goat cheese that is quite spreadable. $4.75/5-oz pkg
  • Cravanzina: a soft-rind cheese made from sheep and cow milk. It's very creamy with a mild taste. $7.50/8.8-oz pkg
  • Pecorino fresco: Aged 15-20 days. Milder than the aged pecorino, it's a great acompaniment to red wines. Cut to order at $12.75/lb
  • Semi-aged Pecorino: Aged 2 months, it has a sharper flavor than the fresh pecorino. The rind is rubbed with tomato, giving it a nice red coloring. Cut to order at $15/lb

We also have some rich and fruity 6-year-old and 12-year-old balsamic vinegars ($15 and $19, respectively) that are great to drizzle on shaved parmesan cheese, sliced tomatoes and avocado, or broiled fish. And don't miss our new assortment of Racconti di Liguria flatbreads and breadsticks in Classic, Rosemary, and Olive flavors for $2.75/pkg.
